The Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway Fund

“My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.”
Ronald Reagan, during his last major address in Houston in 1992.

In 2005, the Texas Legislature unanimously passed House Bill 540, authored by State Representative Dwayne Bohac, which designated a substantial portion of U.S. Highway 290 inside Harris County—also known as Houston's Northwest Freeway—as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway. The bill was signed into law on June 16, 2005 by Governor Rick Perry and officially went into effect on September 1, 2005.

Seven years have passed and the majority of Texans driving on U.S. 290 remain unaware their daily commute is on the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.

In the spirit of President Reagan's belief in the private sector, the Texas Legislature trusted that patriotic citizens would come together to make this a reality. The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to construct and erect the new highway signs reflecting the name change only when they receive enough private donations—not taxpayer dollars—to cover the costs.

In honor of what would be President Reagan’s 101st birthday this year, our goal is to see this vision completed by raising the initial $24,000 in private funds needed to purchase the signage reflecting the official designation of U.S. Highway 290’s proper name. Additional projects will be announced in the future once our primary objectives are accomplished.

By donating, your name will be added to our list of Friends of the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway on this site and you will forever be a part of history by honoring our 40th President.

With your help, we can win one more for the Gipper…
